What is Compressor?
Compressor is mechanical device that increases the pressure of gas by reducing its volume. In the compressor, gas temperature rises that is straight loss of energy in the form of heat.
Disadvantage of the conventional compressor
When the gas is compressed rapidly with minimal heat transfer, a significant amount of energy is used into increasing the gas temperature. Current compressors provide poor heat transfer between mechanical boundaries and gas. The heat transfer is poor in these machines due to high-speed operations and practical geometry requirements that indicate the poor surface area to volume ratio. For example, in a gas power plant, the compression ratio is nearly 15 to 17 that can increase a very high temperature at the exit. So that oxy-fuel combustion can be done at a very high temperature and turbomachinery blade design and materialistic problem occurred.
What is Isothermal Compression Process?
Isothermal compression process, increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume at constant temperature. In this compression process, the work consumption will reduce as compared to the conventional compressor. In this compressor, the heat transfer is efficient with the atmosphere because of a good surface area to volume ratio.
